Speed Wong Racing, LLC
In two short years, Speed Wong Racing, LLC has grown to be one of the largest race car teams on the West Coast. The shop is based in Orange County, California, although its team members and drivers come from varied cities and backgrounds.
Running under a division of NASCAR short track racing, the home track is Irwindale Speedway in Southern California. The 2007 season has the Team consistently racing multiple cars in several different divisions on Saturday nights. Running a NASCAR schedule, the Team fields several Super Late Models, Late Models, Super Trucks and Legends, often on the same evening’s race. In addition to racing at Irwindale Speedway, stock car racing has taken the Team to tracks at Las Vegas and Infineon.
In 2008 Speed Wong Racing, LLC is taking it’s team in a new direction…up! With much success in the NASCAR weekly racing series, Speed Wong Racing, LLC decided that it is time to move up the NASCAR ladder and into the Camping World Series West. Speed Wong Racing, LLC will continue its presence at Irwindale Speedway in multiple divisions such as Super Late Models, Late Models, Super Trucks and Legends, but it’s main focus will be the NASCAR West series with rookie driver Jason Patison.
Speed Wong Racing, LLC has teamed up with Lucas Oil Products to field 2 cars in the NASCAR Camping World Series West. One will be piloted full time by Jason Patison in a quest for the 2008 championship while the second will be fielded part-time by long time Speed Wong Racing, LLC driver Brian Wong. Speed Wong Racing, LLC is proud to be affiliated with Lucas Oil Products, an internationally known manufacturer and distributor of specialty high performance specialty oil products that are second-to-none in the racing industry. Lucas Oil racing products have proven themselves in NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA, USHRA, and ATPA tracks across the country. Lucas Oil has recently acquired naming rights for the new stadium of the NFL Champion Indianapolis Colts football team.
Speed Wong Racing, LLC looks forward to a great season with Jason Patison as the team will not only be competing for the series championship but for Rookie of the Year honors as well. Jason Patison is a well known race car driver and has won several races and championships all over the west coast. 2008 will be an exciting season, as Jason Patison and Speed Wong Racing, LLC conquer the West level, on their path to the NASCAR Cup Series.
Despite their heavy involvement in NASCAR, Speed Wong Racing, LLC will still find time in its schedule, for entries in the International Motor Sports Association GT3 Cup Challenge (IMSA GT3 Series), the Yokohama Drivers Cup Series and some Porsche Owner’s Club races. The goal is to have fun and let team drivers, such as Jason Patison, compete at a very high level with other professional teams in the sports car series. The IMSA series is televised and extremely competitive and will provide excellent exposure for Speed Wong Racing, LLC. Speed Wong Racing, LLC is affiliating itself with the well known and highly successful driver and team owner, Dennis Aase, to field Speed Wong Racing, LLC two Porsche GT3 Cup cars. We look forward to continued success in the series’ and a lot of fun with Dennis in 2008.
In other racing venues, Speed Wong Racing, LLC owns and races a drag car and two Porsche factory GT3 Cup race cars. Taking the fun off road sees us on 2 wheel dirt bikes, and quads. The past 3 years, several Team Members have ‘pre run’ the Baja 500 in two seat off road cars.
Speed Wong Racing, LLC is extremely grateful for the great members on our Team. Each Team Member is selected solely based upon their character, as we want to be surrounded by quality people. On a typical long race day, twenty- five dedicated Team Members arrive early in the morning and work hard all day, not leaving until we load up and leave at midnight. Our Crew is a great combination of race car fans, motorheads, young and seasoned veterans. To make the Team possible, our Team Manager, Crew Chief, Car Chiefs, Spotters, Motor Specialists, Tire Specialists, transport drivers, mechanics, support friends, and race car drivers all come together to have fun racing. Racing is a sport with highs and lows, sometimes we go home without a good finish and often we work late because we’ve done well. Regardless, our goal is have fun and we always leave with a lot of smiles and laughs playing jokes on each other.
The spotters take care of the drivers on the track, the mechanics, car chiefs, tire specialists, engine tuners and crew all support each other on the Team. Camaraderie is important, the seasoned veterans ply their race craft, teaching the young enthusiastic members, the drivers coming in often making guest appearances, the entire Team depending on each other, all make our Team one of the hardest working, most productive, and it is our hope, one of the more fun teams to be on.
To support the team, several semi trucks pull large, double decked trailers to the track. A tremendous assortment of tools, parts, and support equipment are all managed by the Team to be ready to win on Saturday night. Also supporting the Team, our friends and family who root the Team on, are welcome to the Speed Wong Racing, LLC suite at Irwindale Speedway.
