What do race teams do on a night off? Football, bar hopping, maybe the needed time at the gym? Nope, not us. The Speed Wong Racing team came together for a night of indoor karting at Dromo One in Anaheim. A battle had ensued between the NASCAR crew and the Porsche guys, with a lot of big talk and not much action. 25 brave souls took different approaches to the nights battles. Some were cocky, some playing possum, some just there to be discovered and wanted to audition for a full time NASCAR Cup ride. Our large group was divided into smaller groups; running multiple sweating, trash talking and laugh a lap heats in preparation for the main event.
Fast from the drop of the first green flag was bad boy, highly over self touted Brad from Aasco, following Brian, his spotter Chris (CJ2), NASCAR driver and Brian’s car chief, Derek and Amadeo Jr., son of fellow Assco teammate driver, Amadeo Quiros. The week before, in the vein of Babe Ruth himself, Raji and Austin from Team Porsche declared themselves the winners. Sadly, Babe Ruth was even traded during his glory days, and the real racers quickly dispensed of the proud Austin and Raji. The silent but deadly guys were the ones to watch. They were more deadly because they hit and ran into each other, all quite unintentionally. Just bad drivers, sorry, were Jeff, James, Bob, Jerel, Clown Prince Kevin. The worse guys were Junior and Chris who claimed their arms were tired. How manly macho are those two wimps? Team PR (Poor Racer) person Christine played tough girl never admitting she was out of her element even after running into poor Jeff and James. Those two made up excuses of why they were hit by a girl, how pitiful are they?
Derek, Brian and Amadeo, Jr. battled each other throughout the heats, securing spots in the main event. With the 15 lap main event ready to start at the green, Brian, Amadeo and Derek held the top three positions. The top three fastest battled each other continuously leaving behind the slower rest of the group. Amadeo Jr. was able to pass Brian, leaving a battle for second between Brian and Derek. The checker flag flew, resulting in Amadeo Jr. the overall winner, with Brian finishing second and Derek finishing third.
After the track trophies for 1st through 3rd place were given out, Speed Wong Racing had its own hand-made trophies to distribute. These custom made, highly valuable, much sought after trophies were commissioned by the famous French store, TarJey (in America, it’s named Target). The three trophies had very special meanings in which they are given to specific people who represent the true spirit and value of these prestigious hand-made art pieces. Austin, because of his pre-race boasting received the “Biggest Loser” award for not being able to back up his words, and for being…a loser. Junior Joiner received the “Don’t Come Back” because we honestly don’t want him to ever come back again. Who can blame us for not wanting a guy from Bakersfield back in Orange County. That’s worse than a 909’r. Last but least respected, the“ Track Clown” award was given to the one and only Kevin Myrick, for obvious reasons. He has no sense of humor and what little he has it down right poor. Watching Jerel in his old man walk is more entertaining than listening to Kevin.
Everyone had a terrible time, no one was promised a full time Cup ride by NASCAR scout Tim Crawford. Porsche scout Dennis Aase would have offered a ride but he’s so old he’s nearly blind. Everyone left a loser, even Amadeo, Jr. who isnt’ on the team which itself makes him a party crashing loser. The food sucked at Chili’s, eating there only because it’s across the street and alcoholics like Bob and Jeff aren’t allowed to drive more than a block when loaded.
Speed Wong Racing thanks our teammates, who we are proud to call friends, for their help all through this 2009 season. May God take care of everyone this offseason and bring us together in 2010.
